History

Otto Golze & Söhne is characterised by 140 years of tradition and innovation. The key milestones include:

1873

Founding of the company by Wilhelm Golze in Landsberg an der Warthe (present-day Poland).

1952

Production and distribution of the first coir mats for cars. The VW Beetle's standard fittings were made purely of rubber without textile materials. Acting as the exclusive supplier, Golze fitted out the VW Beetle with coir mats for some 15 years. Mercedes was also supplied with car mats by Golze.

1968

Development of the manufacturing process for coir velour with PVC backing and establishment of the company's own plant for in-house manufacturing. Golze held the patent for 20 years.

1973

Takeover of the Strasser coir and sisal weaving mill with the ASTRA brand.

1984

Development and introduction of the first flock-printed doormat. The flock-printing process itself was already known, but had not yet been applied to doormats. Golze carried out testing for two years before achieving the permanent application of flock print to doormats.

1987

Development of the first hanging doormat presentation at the customer's eye level.

1989

Establishment of stair tread runners as a product group.

1994

Relocation of shipping and storage activities to the newly built logistics centre with a high-bay warehouse in Emmerthal.

1997

Start of in-house manufacturing of bordered rugs.

1998

First marketing of woollen floorings. Presentation of the first antibacterial doormat.

1999

Constructed and moved into administration building in Emmerthal.

2004

Introduction of shop system with ASTRA and Ogos products and retail presentation.

2005

Start of cooperation with A. Kolckmann GmbH. Golze distributes rug underlays of the AKO brand.

2008

Start of licence acquisition for rugs of the SCHÖNER WOHNEN collection, which remains a great success to this day. Market introduction of ASTRA-care stain protection for natural-fibre floor coverings.

2010

Development and launch of colourful rugs with the designer Lars Contzen.

2013

Introduction of the custom-size programmes: ASTRA “Wunschlos glücklich” and SCHÖNER WOHNEN “Maßlos glücklich! Traumteppiche in individuellen Maßen.”

2014

Opening of the new Logistics Center for rugs in Hachmühlen, Lower Saxony, Germany

2015

Launch of new product line - bath mats.
